Abstract

The tourism sector consists of several interconnected sectors including transportation, accommodation, food and beverage, travel agencies and attractions. This article examines the tourism sector of Maharashtra, its size and its economic impact. Maharashtra has diverse landscapes, historical sites, cultural heritage, cities, hill stations, caves, beaches and wildlife destinations. Tourism contributes to revenue generation, employment creation and infrastructure development. The study examines tourism trends, tourist arrivals, investment, employment and government tourism policies. It identifies the growth potential of tourism in Maharashtra and discusses the need for improved infrastructure, planning, coordination, private investment and sustainable tourism development.
